Whitecross High School in Herefordshire add Covered Dining Area

Due to a period of growth, Whitecross High School discovered the need for additional space for students during lunchtime. A&S Landscape worked closely with the school to design, manufacture and install a bespoke canopy.

A bespoke Motiva steel and polycarbonate dining canopy structure now provides the school with a valuable outdoor dining space. The Opal roofing allows sunlight through while providing protection against UV rays. What’s more, is that a side of glass panels was also added to the canopy to give students extra shelter from the elements. Whitecross High School, in Herefordshire, chose a modern Iron Grey RAL colour for the framework, which works perfectly with the surrounding buildings.

The area can be used by the students to eat, relax, socialise and refresh before their afternoon lessons. Giving students the opportunity to spend time outdoors is important for several reasons and can have a positive impact on the entire school. This bespoke canopy allows the students to enjoy the fresh air throughout the year, come rain or shine. Whitecross High School successfully found a cost-effective solution to their problem, without having to build a formal building. We’ve also installed other school canopies in Herefordshire, at Ledbury Primary School and St Peter’s Primary School.

Is dining outdoors a privilege or essential to school children?

There are a variety of established benefits to eating outside as a part of the school day. As pupils spend the whole day in a classroom environment, it is integral that they are given time to breathe at lunchtime. In spending this break outside, it not only provides a calming environment but can also reduce levels of hyperactivity in a pupil. If a student is forced to occupy their break indoors, it can emulate the classroom setting and prevent them from taking a suitable amount of time to relax. Eating outdoors is also a really sociable activity, unrestricted by the dining hall setting students can speak with other year groups easily.

Our engineers designed a playground umbrella for Ludlow Junior School Clee View, Ludlow, Shropshire. The full contract involved the supply and fitting of one Maxima™ waterproof Umbrella structure supported on a single upright measuring 5000mm X 5000mm.

Colourful School Shelter Added at Coleham Primary School

We erected a canopy at Coleham Primary School Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The full contract involved four post protection pads.

Newtown C Of E Primary School Install Freestanding Play Area Shelter

Our team built a curved roof canopy for Newtown C Of E Primary School Newtown, Wem, Shropshire. The full contract involved one Motiva™ Mono curved roof canopy measuring 6000mm X 4800mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish and four post pads.

St George’s Junior School Add Curved Roof Canopy with Blue Steelwork

We made a curved roof canopy for St George’s Junior School Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The contract included one Motiva™ Duo duopitch curved roof canopy measuring 6000mm X 5000mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Yellow Coloured Entrance Canopy Designed for Weston Rhyn Primary School

A&S produced an entrance canopy in Weston Rhyn Primary School Old Chirk Road, Weston Rhyn, Shropshire. The contract included one Motiva™ Entro curved roof canopy measuring 3000mm X 2000mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Polycarbonate Roof Shelter Installed at Stokesay Primary School

A&S produced a canopy at Stokesay Primary School Market Street, Craven Arms, Shropshire. The full contract involved relocation of existing canopy to new location and provide new polycarbonate sheets.

We produced a straight polycarbonate roof canopy at Lower Heath CE School Prees, Whitchurch, Shropshire. Full details are: the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight coloured polycarbonate roof canopy measuring 9200mm X 6000mm with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish ad the removal of the existing canopy.
